Teen and Tween Therapy
During adolescence, teens often struggle with their body changes, mood swings and social issues. I work with tweens and teens struggling with eating disorders, addiction, anxiety, depression and behavioral issues. I am an advocate of early intervention to children of any age that are showing symptoms of emotional imbalance. Kids may begin showing signs of anxiety at any age, but many children are more likely to begin experiencing symptoms of anxiety or depression near puberty.
Stages of Adolescence
- Physical Development
- Intellectual Development
- Emotional Development
- Social Development
Teenagers and children experience the same emotions adults do with less ability to cope with them. Because they have not learned healthy coping skills, one of the largest fears parents have is their children will be exposed to drugs or alcohol by their peers. Most adults I have treated for alcoholism or drug addiction state their underlying causes were mental health issues that were never addressed when they were children. With early counseling intervention, I can help teach your child how to cope with stress, avoid peer pressure, and resolve relationships issues. No matter what your child is struggling with, I will work closely with you to learn about your child’s behaviors bringing you the most concern.
Common Mental Health Issues for Tweens and Teens

I work closely with a child and adolescent psychiatrist. Depending on your child’s presentations of symptoms, I will refer you to have an assessment of your child’s need for medication. If the need for medication is determined it is not a cure-all. Psychotherapy alongside medication is the best combination. I also work with a dietician specializing in eating disorders which is a critical component of your child’s team of helping professionals.
Types of Therapy
I use a blend of therapies depending on your child’s needs. I provide psychoeducation, and skill training using simplified systems for Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy which provide the most effective results by decreasing negative symptoms and increasing positive behaviors.
Please be assured I will be regularly checking in with you for updates on your child’s symptoms and behaviors which is an integral part of their therapy.
