Are You Self-Medicating Your Anxiety / Depression With Alcohol & Drugs ?

August 28, 2016 by Meaghan Flenner

Am-I-addicted-to-drugs...-or-simply-self-medicating-2

Self-medicating is the way many  addictions begin. Having anxiety or depression about life’s circumstances or  just the way your brain is wired. You  may not know that you are susceptible to dependency until it is too late. Some families in recovery educate  future generations earlier  in life for early prevention. Sadly, the epidemic with today’s youth  shows so many are still not getting the early help they need for their families  from outside sources.

Check this link for helpful information on why people self-medicate

I specialize in working with   families  struggling with addiction and alcoholism. I am passionate about educating and stopping the cycle of family dysfunction.  Medication may be a necessary component, but so is regular psychotherapy. Twelve step programs work for many, but not all, so psychotherapy is a critical step for those  who need additional mental health coping tragedies and also for those who are not willing to work the 12 steps of recovery.

It is critical you get the help you need sooner than later, to prevent further negative consequences from  hurting your life experience.
