Premarital Counseling

Premarital counseling can help partners improve their ability to communicate, set realistic expectations for marriage and develop conflict-resolution skills. In addition, premarital counseling can help couples establish a positive attitude about seeking help down the road.

Keep in mind that you bring your own values, opinions, and history into a relationship, and they might not always match your partners. In addition, many people go into marriage believing it will fulfill their social, financial, sexual and emotional needs — and that’s not always the case. By discussing differences and expectations before marriage, you and your partner can better understand and support each other during the marriage.

I am trained in the following marriage and premarital modalities

  • Gottman Level 1 & Level 11
  • Prepare & Enrich – building strong marriages
  • Couples Communication

What you can expect is a structured series of sessions where we address many topics sensitive to your relationship and future planning. We look at many individual and partnership variables in your unique relationship. Conflict resolution and assertive communication is key for healthy couples and I will teach and guide you as you learn to demonstrate many of these skills.

Premarital counseling is a type of therapy that helps couples prepare for marriage. By deciding to come for premarital counseling it can help ensure that you and your partner have a strong, healthy relationship, giving you both a better chance for a stable and satisfying marriage. Premarital counseling also can help you identify weaknesses that could become problems later on during your marriage. One of the goals of premarital counseling is to help you improve your relationship before marriage. When we work together, I will encourage you to discuss topics related to marriage, such as:

  • Finances
  • Communication
  • Beliefs and values
  • Roles in marriage
  • Affection and sex
  • Children and parenting
  • Family relationships
  • Decision-making
  • Dealing with anger
  • Time spent together

I welcome the opportunity to help strengthen and build your foundation as you enter into a new journey together.
